From the Apparatus page, you can use the Toolbar
to return to the Search page, access the global Table of Contents
page, open a context-sensitive Help page and consult general information
about the database.
Many of the texts in the Patrologia Latina Database
have a detailed apparatus, generally divided into individual notes.
There are the following three types of notes: Marginalia, Editorial
Notes (inserted by Chadwyck-Healey) and Variant Readings.
Marginalia appear in Migne's printed edition of Patrologia
Latina at the bottom of each column and are 'called out' from
the text by a letter or number. Each note is marked in the Full
Text by the Apparatus button
next to its callout letter or number.
Editorial Notes have been inserted in some documents by Chadwyck-Healey:
these are marked in the Full Text by the
Apparatus button.
You can access the Apparatus page for either Marginalia or Editorial
Notes by clicking the
button. The type of note is displayed at the start of the Full Text
in square brackets, for example '[Footnote]'. Following this, also
in square brackets, is the note's column number reference, for example
'[Col. 0966D]'.
The download size in bytes of a note appears next to the Apparatus
button. The larger the download size of a note, the longer the corresponding
Apparatus page will take to download.
Variant Readings appear in Migne's printed edition of Patrologia
Latina at the bottom of each column and are 'called out' from
the text by a letter or number. Each note is marked in the Full
Text by the Variant Readings button next
to its callout letter or number.
You can access the Apparatus page for Variant Readings by clicking
the button. The type
of note, '[Variant Reading]', is displayed at the start of the Full
Text in square brackets. Following this, also in square brackets,
is the note's column number reference, for example '[Col. 0966D]'.
The download size in bytes of a note appears next to the Variant
Readings button. The larger the download size of a note, the longer
the corresponding Apparatus page will take to download.
